Visit from a red fox

A red fox visited my fenced -in yard today (October 22, 2011) in the middle of suburbia.

Don’t know how the fox entered, don’t know how he got out.  Apparently they can climb fences according to this YouTube video: Foxes can Climb

There he was standing 2 feet away from me and my dog as we surprised each other that morning, and then he ran toward my prairie garden. My dog quickly followed and I followed my dog yelling, running in and out through the thick, tall prairie plants.  I could hear the  Benny Hill Theme Song playing in my head as we chased each other.  (I’m not a Benny Hill fan, but for some reason this song came to head at the time ).  I finally got my dog Heidi  and took her inside the house.

I got my camera, ran back to the  yard, but I could not find the fox.

But I know he chose my garden that day as do other wildlife, because it closely resembles home.

If it wasn’t for my dog or for the humans living there who spend so much time outdoors, I believe my yard would be a good home for a fox.

Little Red Fox, thank you for visiting.
